The Tower of David (Jerusalem Citadel)- 7 mil
This stamp highlights the martial and urban history of the Holy City through its depiction of the Citadel of Jerusalem, commonly known as the Tower of David. The illustration carries a message of defensive strength and historical layers, showcasing the massive fortifications that have guarded the Jaffa Gate for centuries through successive empires. In the Palestinian context, this 5-millième issue celebrates Jerusalem’s architectural endurance and its status as a cornerstone of the region’s institutional identity. By presenting this landmark on a state document, the British Mandate postal service reinforced the historical narrative of the "eternal city." The bilingual and trilingual inscriptions document a nature defined by conflict, transition, and coexistence, positioning the Citadel as a monumental witness to the evolving political and cultural landscape of the 20th-century Near East.
