Welcome to Palestine Stamps

15th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948–1963) - 5 millieme

This commemorative stamp was issued in 1963 for use in the Gaza Strip under the administration of the United Arab Republic (UAR) to mark the 15th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948–1963). Originally adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1948, the declaration's milestone was honored globally through dedicated postal releases. By issuing this specific stamp inscribed with "PALESTINE," the administration highlighted the local population's enduring connection to the international community and aligned their civic narrative with global principles of justice, equality, and fundamental human rights. The design features a prominent United Nations emblem in the upper left corner, while the center is dominated by a stylized balance scale—the universal symbol of justice and equity—superimposed over a globe. Below the central motif, the bilingual inscription reads "HUMAN RIGHTS" alongside its Arabic equivalent, "I'lan Huquq al-Insan" (إعلان حقوق الإنسان), accompanied by the dual commemorative years 1948–1963. Circulating on everyday domestic and international mail, this 5-millieme stamp served as a miniature vehicle for advocacy, broadcasting a message of universal dignity, legal protections, and international solidarity to the wider world.
