Welcome to Palestine Stamps

Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee - 1 pound

This stamp highlights the natural and spiritual allure of the Galilee region through its depiction of the city of Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee (Lake Tiberias). The illustration carries a message of serenity and historical depth, featuring the distinctive domes and minarets of the old city juxtaposed against the vast, tranquil waters that have been a focal point of religious and social life for millennia. In the Palestinian context of the 1927 pictorial series, this 200-millième issue represents the British Mandate's institutional effort to showcase the diverse geographic and cultural landscapes of the Holy Land. The trilingual border—inscribing Palestine in English, Arabic, and Hebrew—serves as a record of the complex administrative identity of the period, reflecting a nature defined by shared heritage and the enduring significance of the region's biblical and historical topography.
