20th Anniversary of the Arab League
This commemorative postage stamp was issued in 1965 for use in the Gaza Strip under the administration of the United Arab Republic (UAR) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Arab League (1945–1965). Founded in Cairo in March 1945 by six core nations, the regional organization expanded over the subsequent two decades to foster broader political, economic, and cultural solidarity across North Africa and the Middle East. By explicitly featuring the inscription "PALESTINE," the postal administration underscored the enduring prominence of the Palestinian national cause at the very heart of pan-Arab diplomacy and regional alignment.
The layout features a multi-colored array of flags representing the member states of the Arab League, arranged above the organization's official green emblem a calligraphic circle enclosed within a chain and an olive wreath. Directly beneath the flags are the commemorative years 1965 and its Arabic equivalent ١٩٦٥. The base of the stamp carries the bilingual inscription "20th ANNIV. OF ARAB LEAGUE" and "Al-Id al-Ishrun li-Jami'at al-Duwal al-Arabiyah" (العيد العشرون لجامعة الدول العربية). Circulating widely on domestic and international civil mail, this 10-millieme stamp projected a powerful visual statement of geopolitical unity and fraternal cooperation across the Arab world.
